How to Become a Rust Admin

Finding & Adding your SteamID

• To add ourselves to the owner group on the Rust Server, we must first find the SteamID of your account. To quickly do this, you can type status in the console and copy the entry in the id column.
• After copying the SteamID for the user you want to be "owner," you now have to add them to the owner group. This can be done by entering ownerid [STEAMID] "[NICKNAME]" which will add the player to the owner group.
• Unfortunately, this doesn't grant permission to do anything yet because we have to save it on the server.

Saving to Server

• In our previous step, we added the user to the owner group, but we haven't yet written it to the server's config.
• To update the changes we have made, enter writecfg into the server's console. This command will write and edit the changes to the owner id and apply them in-game.
• For these changes to be made to your SteamID, you must re-connect to the server.

Useful Admin Tips

• Congrats, you're now an admin on your Rust server! Here are some valuable tips for using (or abusing) your newfound powers.
• First off, noclip is a command you can type (in your game console) in-order to fly around and clip through walls.
• If you want to spawn in weapons or items, you can click the ITEMS tab and give yourself anything in the game!
• You can also now spawn in entities, such as animals, NPCs, and other things in-game with the spawn [ID] command where id is you put any one of these items.
• A critical command is find [word]. For example, find time is very useful as it allows you to change times of event or even the time in the server.
